The report provides an update on progress since the last meeting on decisions taken by the Area Committee and details the current position on area flexibility funding. The report also includes the current position on the highway and traffic management delegated budget.

A representative of the Democratic Services Manager submitted a report (copies of which had been circulated) updating the Area Committee on progress since the last meeting on decisions taken by the Area Committee, the current position on Ward Flexibility Funding and the Highway Maintenance and Traffic Management delegated budget.

Community Engagement

7.(i)

Chair's Announcements

To receive any announcements from the Chair about local community events or issues.

Minutes:

The Chair conveyed her best wishes to the organisers of the various events being held in the Cheadle area to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

7.(ii)

Neighbourhood Policing

Councillors and members of the public are invited to raise ‘Neighbourhood Policing’ issues with the local Neighbourhood Policing Team.

Minutes:

With the consent of the Area Committee, this item was considered in conjunction with Agenda Item 7(vi) ‘Open Forum – Safer Stockport Partnership – Annual Report 2011/12’.

 

Inspector Steve Gilbertson (Greater Manchester Police) and Nigel Hudson (Community Safety Operations Manager, Stockport Council) attended the meeting to make a presentation in respect of the work of the Safer Stockport Partnership to reduce crime in 2011/12 and to answer questions from Councillors and members of the public in relation to Neighbourhood Policing issues within the Cheadle area.

 

The following issues were raised/comments made:-

 

           The reduction in re-offending and the work carried out by Stockport Homes with people who had just left prison.

           A Member requested that regular police patrols took place at the nurses home on St. Ann’s Road North, Heald Green as a priority.

           The proportion of drug-related offences in the area and a request for more information from the drug referral service.

           The telephone numbers for reporting anti-social behaviour with the Council and non-emergency crimes with the Police.

 

RESOLVED –That Inspector Steve Gilbertson and Nigel Hudson be thanked for their attendance and presentation.

Public Question Time

Members of the public are invited to put questions to the Chair of the Area Committee on any matters within the powers and duties of the Area Committee, subject to the exclusions set out in the Code of Practice (Questions must be submitted prior to the commencement of the meeting on the cards provided. These are available the meeting and at local libraries and information centres.  You can also submit via the Council’s website at www.stockport.gov.uk/publicquestions.

Public Realm

The local Public Realm Inspector will attend the meeting to provide an update on matters raised at the last committee meetings. Councillors and Members of the public are invited to raise issues affecting local environmental quality and the condition of the highway.

Minutes:

David Wilson (Public Realm Inspector) attended the meeting to report on current issues and to answer questions from Councillors and members of the public in relation to environmental and highways issues within the area represented by the Cheadle Area Committee.

 

The following comments were made/issues raised:-

 

           Concern was expressed that residents were expected to estimate the depth of a pothole when reporting it.

           The removal of graffiti in subways.

 

RESOLVED – That David Wilson be thanked for his attendance.

Safer Stockport Partnership – Annual Report 2011/12

 

Representatives of the Community Safety Unit and Greater Manchester Police will make a presentation to the Area committee outlining the work of the partnership to reduce crime in the Cheadle Area Committee area in 2011/12.

The Chair reported that the Open Forum in respect of the ‘Safer Stockport Partnership – Annual Report 2011/12’ had been considered in conjunction with Agenda Item 7(ii).

RESOLVED –  (1) That the Planning and Highways Regulation Committee be recommended to undertake a site visit in order to consider the environmental issues regarding noise, odour and litter as a result of the existing food outlets on Old Rectory Gardens, and the parking problems in the area.

 

(2) That an Environmental Health Officer be requested to attend the site visit and that the Planning and Highways Regulation Committee be requested to undertake the site visit in the evening.
