Stockport NHS Breast Service

 

To consider a briefing note from Stockport Clinical Commissioning Group in relation to the closure of the Breast Service in Stockport.

The Chair made the following announcements:-

·         There were two rapid charging points for electric vehicles in the borough on Newbridge Lane and Massey Street and Councillors were pushing for more to be installed throughout the borough.

·         Contractors had now been engaged to do full designs and plans for a new swimming pool in Marple in Marple Memorial Park. Further information was available on the Life Leisure and Council website.

·         He warned on reports of scam phone calls and asked that residents be on their guard and keep a watch on elderly neighbours.

·         Sunday 8th September – a Day at the Lakes event at the Roman Lakes.

·         Friday 13th September – an event at the Plaza for people who suffer from dementia.

·         Saturday 21st September – Marple Food and Drink Festival.

·         On-going consultations : (a) Breast screening which was on-line until the 31st August and further information was included on the Area Committee agenda and (b) Stockport Town Centre West which was on the Council website until 6th September.

Public Question Time

Members of the public are invited to put questions to the Chair of the Area Committee on any matters within the powers and duties of the Area Committee, subject to the exclusions set out in the Code of Practice (Questions must be submitted prior to the commencement of the meeting on the cards provided. These are available the meeting. You can also submit via the Council’s website at www.stockport.gov.uk/publicquestions.

Members of the public were invited to submit questions to the Chair of the Area Committee on any matters within the powers and duties of the Area Committee.

 

Five questions were submitted as follows:-

 

a)    Two questions relating to the expansion of Ludworth Primary School and associated parking concerns

 

The Chair responded to the questions at the meeting, explaining that the Corporate, Resource Management and Governance Scrutiny Committee had considered a report, made comments on the parking concerns and that a decision would now be made by the Cabinet.

 

b)    The turning off of traffic lights in Marple

 

RESOLVED – That the issues raised by the questioner be referred to the Corporate Director for Place Management for consideration and that a report be submitted to a future meeting.

 

c)    Hollins Lane, Marple Bridge

 

RESOLVED – That the Corporate Director for Place Management and Regeneration be requested to provide a written response and that it be circulated for information to members of the Area Committee.

 

d)    2019 Poppy Appeal

 

RESOLVED – That the Corporate Director for Place Management and Regeneration be requested to provide a written response and that it be circulated for information to members of the Area Committee.

4.(iii)

Public Realm

The local Public Realm Inspector will attend the meeting to provide an update on matters raised at the last committee meetings. Councillors and Members of the public are invited to raise issues affecting local environmental quality.

A representative of the Deputy Chief Executive reported that he had circulated a report provided by the Public Realm Inspector who had been unable to attend the meeting. Members discussed concerns over blocked gullies and grids which had been particularly problematic during the recent heavy rainfall. The Chair read out a statement on behalf of the Corporate Director for Place Management and Regeneration on actions taken in respect to the recent flooding.

 

RESOLVED – That the report be noted.

Open Forum

In accordance with the Code of Practice no organisation has indicated that they wished to address the Area Committee as part of the Open Forum arrangements.

The Chair reported that as no organisation had indicated that they wished to address the Area Committee as part of the Open Forum arrangements – he wanted to take the opportunity to discuss the outcomes of the Local Scrutiny Review on Community Engagement in 2017/2018. The Committee discussed a number of issues and comments were made as follows:-

 

·         The current agenda format had proved to be successful in making it clearer to members of the public could and could not participate in discussions. This format continue.

·         The e-alert had proved to be very successful and now totalled in excess of 130 recipients.

·         Webcasting of meeting continued to be popular and well received. The Area Committee regularly received the most views when compared to the other six Area Committees.

·         The running of an Area Committee Stall at the Marple Carnival and the Marple Food and Drink Festival in future years was not recommended.

·         The Deputy Chief Executive in consultation with the Chair be requested to give consideration to holding meetings of the Area Committee in alternative venues (two meetings per year).

Park Use Application - Brabyns Park Bonfire & Fireworks Display 02.11.19 pdf icon PDF 82 KB

To consider a report of the Corporate Director for Place Management & Regeneration.

 

The report details an application received from Marple Guides and Scouts to hold their annual Bonfire and Fireworks Display at Brabyns Park on Saturday, 2 November 2019.


The event will run from 7.00 pm until 10.00 pm. However, the organiser will require access from 8.00 am on the 2 November 2019 to set up and will vacate the site at 10.00 am on the 3 November 2019.

 

The Area Committee is recommended to grant the application subject to the production of appropriate papers, event plans and the payment of an administration and bond fee.
