Mayor's Announcements

To receive announcements from the Mayor and to make Long Service Award presentations to those councillors that have served twenty years or more as a member of Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council or its predecessors.

The Mayor advised the Council meeting that Councillors Sheila Bailey, Peter Burns, Martin Candler, Christine Corris, Colin Foster, Tom Grundy, Kevin Hogg, Bryan Leck, Tom McGee, John Pantall, Paul Porgess, Maureen Rowles and Mike Wilson had all served in excess of 20 years on either this Council or its predecessor authorities, and that this service would be recognised through the presentation of a Long Service Award certificate.

 

The Mayor also announced that this would be the last meeting of the Council to be attended by Councillors Bryan Leck, Anthony O’Neill, John Smith, David White and Craig Wright following their forthcoming retirement from the Council after the local elections on 22 May 2014.

 

The Group Leaders then paid tribute to the retiring councillors.

 

The Mayor then moved on to report that this year would also mark the 40th anniversary of the creation of the Metropolitan Borough Council of Stockport and noted that Councillor Leck was first Mayor of the Metropolitan Borough in 1974.

 

The Mayor further reported that on Tuesday, 1 April 2014 he had attended the Greater Manchester Schools Games which had also been attended by Stockport Olympian, Alan Newton.

The Deputy Leader of the Council (Corporate, Customer and Community Services) (Councillor Mark Weldon) submitted a report (copies of which had been circulated) detailing the outcome of a consultation on a proposal to change the name of Bramhall South Ward to Bramhall South and Woodford Ward and requesting that the Council Meeting give consideration to the proposed change of name.

 

RESOLVED – That approved be given to the change of name of the Bramhall South ward to Bramhall South and Woodford ward.
