Meeting: 13/12/2011 - Hazel Grove Ward Committee (Item 3)

Environmental Services

The Area Conditions Officer will attend the meeting to provide an update on matters raised at the last meeting. Councillors and members of the public are invited to raise issues affecting local environment quality.

Minutes:

Adam Cunningham, Area Conditions Officer, attended the meeting to answer questions from Councillors and members of the public in relation to environmental issues within the Hazel Grove area.

A number of issues were discussed including:-

·         Residents of Cook Street had been issued warnings about leaving refuse sacks on the street and using other people’s bins.

·         The cul-de-sac end of Bramhall Moor Lane would be cleared of any litter.

·         Section 46 notices had been served on those people who had been dumping refuse in recycling bins at Commercial Road and Sainsbury’s.

·         The activity of Travellers at Melford Road was being monitored. It was noted that the Police could only intervene if the Travellers were on a public highway.

·         The area behind the flats on Lime Street was being monitored to ensure it was kept clear of waste. The residents would also be instructed on the proper use of their bins.

·         The bins next to the shops on Hazelwood Road would be monitored as it has been suggested by residents that they were inadequate for the amount of refuse disposed of there.

·         The Police had been instructed to inspect scrap metal vehicles to ensure that they and their operators were correctly licenced.

·         Members of the public were discouraged from accepting offers from anyone offering to dispose their refuse for them. To avoid being implicated in any criminal activity they should ensure that they receive a Waste Transfer Note.

·         67% of waste was recycled in Stockport (based on tonnage) which was the highest rate in Greater Manchester.

·         Dog litter bins would be phased out of parks. All dog waste could now be placed in the conventional litter bins.

·         If residents ran out of blue bin bags, they could use any type of bag in their black bin.

RESOLVED – That the comments be noted.
