Approval of Widened Scope for Stockport Council Local Restrictions Support Grant (Open) and Additional Restrictions Grant Discretionary Grants schemes

Decision Maker: Cabinet Member for Economy & Regeneration, Cabinet Member for Finance & Resources

Decision status: For Determination

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: No

Decision:

The Cabinet Members for Resources, Commissioning & Governance and Economy & Regeneration have previously given approval to a proposal for the operation of an Additional Restrictions Grant (ARG) and a Local Restrictions Grant Scheme (Open) and that individual decisions on the allocation of grants be delegated to the Corporate Director (Place) and Corporate Director (Corporate and Support Services).  This decision was taken on 25 November 2020 and published as decision reference CMDRDC12 & CMDE&R40.

However, the take-up of the ARG scheme particularly has been lower than anticipated and it is proposed that the discretionary grant schemes need to have their eligibility criteria widened so that more businesses are in scope to benefit from the much-needed financial support available to sustain our local economy and to preserve as many jobs as possible. There is also a need to make changes to reflect and accommodate the new lockdown and tiering arrangements.

The Cabinet Members for Resources, Commissioning & Governance and Economy & Regeneration have therefore given approval to a proposal to expand the scope of the Additional Restrictions Grant and a Local Restrictions Grant Scheme (Open) as detailed in the accompanying report.
