The Animal Welfare (Licensing of Activities Involving Animals) (England) Regulations 2018

The above regulations come into force on 1st October 2018 and replace much of the existing animal licensing legislation. In particular, the legislation replaces the current provisions for animal boarding, selling animals as pets, day care for dogs, dog breeders, hiring out of horses and performing animals. The legislation introduces new model conditions for each of the animal activities covered. It also introduces a new risk assessment regime for inspections and licence periods of up to three years and significantly strengthens the previous licensing regime in a number of other ways. Stockport Council needs to formally adopt the legislation, put appropriate officer delegations in place and determining new fees and charges to reflect actual administrative and enforcement costs.
