On the 6th of October 2022 at a meeting of
Stockport Council, Councillor Angie Clark moved a motion regarding
the Council’s concern to the Department for Transport’s
and the Rail Delivery Group’s potential plans to close all
railway station ticket offices in England.
The Council ultimately resolved to refer this issue to the Economy
and Regeneration Scrutiny Committee with the recommendation that
representatives from Northern and Avanti West Coast are invited to
attend a Scrutiny Meeting at the earliest possible point to discuss
future plans for staffing at our local stations.
This meeting is, therefore, being attended by rail
representatives.
