SOS: Slow our Street - Mauldeth road

We, the undersigned Wish Stockport Council to introduce a 20mph speed limit on Mauldeth road, from the start at Didsbury road along to the mini roundabout at the top of Kingsleigh road. There are regular accidents on Mauldeth road, particularly on the stretch from Tithe Barn Primary School to the mini roundabout on Kingsleigh road. One of our neighbours was seriously injured by a car a few months ago, and recently there have been another four car accidents. Three of these cars mounted the pavement, where residents and families walk regularly, and one even flipped upside down and landed in someone’s garden. Mauldeth road is at the heart of the Heatons’ community and as local residents we, along with lots of families with young children, use this road daily to walk, scoot and cycle to schools including Tithe Barn Primary School, Didsbury Road Primary School, St John’s Primary School, Freshfield nursery and others in the local area. There’s a high footfall of pedestrians and cyclists using the road

Reducing the traffic to 20mph will make Mauldeth road safer and healthier for everyone, it will reduce the number of car accidents, reduce air pollution as car emissions are lowered, and reduce the level of noise produced by the traffic.

According to the Department for Transport guidance, “The needs of vulnerable road users must be fully taken into account.” This means Stockport Council should listen to the local community and make Mauldeth road safer. The guidance goes onto say, “Speed management strategies should seek to protect local community life.”

This is our local community, and we’re extremely proud of where we live and our strong community spirit. Please show your support by signing this petition and help us keep our local community safer.
