Chair's Announcements

To receive any announcements from the Chair about local community events or issues.

The Chair reported that two litter picks would take place at the weekend, one starting at the URC at 10am and one at Brabyns Park at 10am to link in with the Great British Spring Clean Campaign. The Make It Marple Group would be holding a market at Wyvale on the 22nd April. A new walk/ride group would meet at the Navigation at 7pm on the 23rd April. A charity treasure hunt would be held in Mellor Memorial Park on 11th May. The Chair finally commented on the fact that there would be local elections on 2 May, he wished Councillor Annette Finnie all the best for the future as she would not be standing for re-election.

Public Question Time

Members of the public are invited to put questions to the Chair of the Area Committee on any matters within the powers and duties of the Area Committee, subject to the exclusions set out in the Code of Practice (Questions must be submitted prior to the commencement of the meeting on the cards provided. These are available the meeting. You can also submit via the Council’s website at www.stockport.gov.uk/publicquestions.

Public Realm

The local Public Realm Inspector will attend the meeting to provide an update on matters raised at the last committee meetings. Councillors and Members of the public are invited to raise issues affecting local environmental quality.

Karen Barnes (Public Realm Inspector) submitted a report providing an update on issues relating to public realm and enforcement related matters in the Marple Area Committee area.

 

The following comments were made/issues raised:-

·         Wybersley Road: residents and land owners have all now received letters requesting cut back. 

·         Thanks were extended to all the groups and individuals who have given their time to make their environment a cleaner and more pleasant place to live and visit.

·         Community Payback Team had visited numerous sites including the passage between Hollins Lane and Leighton Drive in Marple Bridge, the passageway near to Ashbourne Drive- , the passage between Hollins Green Rd and Fern Close and the path from Brickbridge Road down to the canal bridge.

·         The provision of additional Dog Fouling signage.

 

RESOLVED – That the report be noted and Karen Barnes be thanked for her attendance and report.

RESOLVED – That a grant of £400.00 to the Friends of Mellor Memorial Park towards the planting of new shrubs and bedding plants (Marple North ward allocation) be approved.

RESOLVED – That a grant of £500.00 to the Friends of Mill Brow for funding towards the purchase of a defibrillator (Marple North ward allocation) be approved.

The report outlines a proposal to introduce No Waiting at Anytime Restrictions on Clement Road, Marple.

Edwards Way - 20 mph Speed Limits / The Council's Policy on 20mph Speed Limits

This item has been placed on the agenda at the request of Councillor Colin MacAlister.

A representative of the Deputy Chief Executive reported that this item had been placed on the agenda at the request of Councillor Colin MacAlister.

 

Councillor MacAlister reported that he had met with residents and they were concerned about speeding and rat running. He suggested that a 20mph speed limit should be implemented in the Edwards Way area. He further reported that he was still waiting for  a response in respect to concerns he had raised about cars parking on the corner of Edwards Way and Hibbert Lane.

 

RESOLVED – That the Corporate Director for Place Management and Regeneration be requested to submit a report to a future meeting on the possible introduction of a 20mph speed limit in the Edwards Way area on the concerns raised in respect to cars parking at the junction of Edwards Way and Hibbert Lane.

12.

Buxton Lane/Strines Road

This item has been placed on the agenda at the request of Councillor Colin MacAlister.

A representative of the Deputy Chief Executive reported that this item had been placed on the agenda at the request of Councillor Colin MacAlister.

 

Councillor MacAlister reported that he had requested previously that officers investigate the introduction of double yellow lines at the junction of Peacefield and Buxton Lane to prevent cars parking on the corner at that junction. He asked for an update from officers. He further reported that in respect to Strines Road near to Wycroft, cars coming off Strines Road were exiting at speed towards Wycroft which was extremely dangerous and there had been a number of near accidents. A number of proposals had been put forward and he asked if these could be revisited and should include blocking the exit off from Strines Road.

 

RESOLVED – That in light of the views expressed by Councillor MacAlister, the Corporate Director for Place Management be requested to submit a report to a future meeting on the concerns outlined.

To consider a report of the Democratic Services Manager.

 

The report provides an update on progress since the last meeting on decisions taken by the Area Committee and details the current position on area flexibility funding. The report also includes the current position on the highway and traffic management delegated budget.
