RESOLVED – That Councillor Ian Hunter be elected Chair of the Brookfield Park Shiers Family Trust Sub Committee for the period until the next Annual Council Meeting.

To approve as a correct record and sign the minutes of the meeting held on 28 March 2024.

The minutes (copies of which had been circulated) of the meeting held on 28 March 2024 were approved as a correct record and signed by the Chair.

To consider a report of the Assistant Director for Legal & Democratic Governance.

The report details a number of applications received for funding from the Brookfield Park Shiers Family Trust and asks that the Sub Committee consider the applications in line with the charitable objectives of the Trust.

The Sub Committee are recommended to determine the applications for funding from the Brookfield Park Shiers Family Trust.

A representative of the Assistant Director for Legal & Democratic Governance submitted a report (copies of which had been circulated) detailing applications received for funding from the Brookfield Park Shiers Family Trust and recommended that the Sub Committee consider and determine the applications in line with the charitable objectives of the Trust.

Bolshaw Primary School PTFA is asking for £8000 from the Brookfield Park Shiers Family Trust towards the cost of an outdoor canopy classroom to enhance the outdoor learning experience for the children of Bolshaw Primary School by providing an area for nature-based play and learning.

RESOLVED – That the application be deferred to the next meeting of the Sub Committee to enable the applicant the opportunity to attend the meeting to speak to their application.

5th Cheadle Hulme Scout and Guide Hut is asking for £1500 from the Brookfield Park Shiers Family Trust towards the cost of replacing flood damaged flooring in the main hall of the hut to enable safe and continued use of the hut by the scout and guide groups, as well as the wider community.

A representative of the Assistant Director for Legal & Democratic Governance submitted an application received on behalf of 5th Cheadle Hulme Scout and Guide Hut (copies of which had been circulated) which sought funding towards the cost of replacing flood damaged flooring in the main hall of the hut to enable safe and continued use of the hut by the scout and guide groups, as well as the wider community.

The applicant attended the meeting to speak to the application and respond to questions from the Sub Committee.

RESOLVED – That approval be given to an application for funding from the Brookfield Park Shiers Family Trust received from 5th Cheadle Hulme Scout and Guide Hut for a grant of £1500 from the Brookfield Park Shiers Family Trust towards the cost of replacing flood damaged flooring in the main hall of the hut to enable safe and continued use of the hut by the scout and guide groups, as well as the wider community.

2nd Heald Green Brownies is asking for £930 from the Brookfield Park Shiers Family Trust towards the cost of the Brownies residential trip (2025).

A representative of the Assistant Director for Legal & Democratic Governance submitted an application received on behalf of 2nd Heald Green Brownies and Guide Hut (copies of which had been circulated) which sought funding towards the cost of the Brownies residential trip (2025).

The applicant attended the meeting to speak to the application and respond to questions from the Sub Committee.

RESOLVED – That approval be given to an application for funding from the Brookfield Park Shiers Family Trust received from 2nd Heald Green Brownies for a grant of £930 towards subsiding equipment/activities to support fundraising efforts for the Brownies.

Friends of East Avenue Park is asking for up to £9,200 from the Brookfield Park Shiers Family Trust towards the supply and installation of play, fitness/gymnastics-style equipment at East Avenue Park.

A representative of the Assistant Director for Legal & Democratic Governance submitted an application received on behalf of Friends of East Avenue Park (copies of which had been circulated) which sought funding towards the supply and installation of play, fitness/gymnastics-style equipment at East Avenue Park.

The applicant attended the meeting to speak to the application and respond to questions from the Sub Committee.

RESOLVED – That approval be given to an application for funding from the Brookfield Park Shiers Family Trust received from Friends of East Avenue Park for a grant of £3,000 towards the supply and installation of play, fitness/gymnastics-style equipment at East Avenue Park.

Lavington Avenue Guide HQ is asking for up to £6450 from the Brookfield Park Shiers Family Trust towards repaying the cost of a short-term loan to remove asbestos and fit a new roof at the guide hut to enable safe and continued use of the hut by brownie and guide groups.

A representative of the Assistant Director for Legal & Democratic Governance submitted an application received on behalf of Lavington Avenue Guide HQ (copies of which had been circulated) which sought funding towards repaying the cost of a short-term loan to remove asbestos and fit a new roof at the guide hut to enable safe and continued use of the hut by brownie and guide groups.

The applicant attended the meeting to speak to the application and respond to questions from the Sub Committee.

RESOLVED – That approval be given to an application for funding from the Brookfield Park Shiers Family Trust received from Lavington Avenue Guide HQ for a grant of £2725 towards repaying the cost of a short-term loan to remove asbestos and fit a new roof at the guide hut to enable safe and continued use of the hut by brownie and guide groups.

Shrimad Rajchandra Mission Dharampur (UK) is asking for £2000 from Brookfield Park Shiers Family Trust towards supporting their Spreading Smiles campaign by increasing the frequency and variety of events (4-week period) helping to reduce social isolation in the community.

RESOLVED – That the application be deferred to the next meeting of the Sub Committee to enable the applicant the opportunity to attend the meeting to speak to their application.
