Members considered the portfolio dashboard for the Economy and Regeneration Portfolio, the link to which was provided on the agenda front sheet.
The Cabinet Member for Economy and Regeneration (Councillor David Meller) attended the meeting to respond to Members’ questions.
The following comments were made issues/raised:-
· Members noted that the data (Quarter 2) contained within the dashboard had previously been considered by the Committee.
· In relation to the work and skills dashboards, concerns were raised over performance indicators E&R 5.1 regarding Young People employed via Stockport Steps to Work and Kickstart and E&R 5.3 regarding the Youth Employment Hub which were below the targets, and how this could be addressed. Members were advised that, unfortunately, take up on the Kickstart programme had been lower than expected and that this was reflected in the programme nationally. The Council was continuing to promote the programme to increase uptake. Regarding the Youth Employment Hub, Members noted that the Covid-19 pandemic had changed the landscape which had impacted on the service and meant that a realistic target for this indicator had been difficult to set. Members would be updated on what the Council was doing to improve the youth employment target at the next meeting of the Committee.
· A query was raised with regards to occupancy rates in the town centre and an article that had recently been published in the local press. Members were reassured that it was not the case that there were large numbers of empty units as suggested. It was noted that there were discrepancies in the article with regard to where the data had come from and how it had been calculated. The Council used an accredited data source to calculate occupancy rates.
· It was suggested that the relevant dashboard title be added to the relevant performance measure page.
· With regard to district centres, it was noted that the first meeting of the Scrutiny Review Panel established to focus on reviewing Stockport’s District Centres post Covid-19 pandemic was scheduled to take place on 14 February 2022. It was noted that additional Officers had been recruited to the Development and Regeneration team whose work would focus solely on district centres. It was suggested that the Panel look at how to engage other Ward Members and gain their views as part of the review.
