To consider a report of the Corporate Director for Place Management and Regeneration

The report advises Members of of the preparation of updated Character Appraisal and Management Plan documents for the existing 'Market / Underbanks' and 'Hillgate' conservation areas.

The Area Committee is requested to comment on the draft character appraisals and management plans.

A representative of the Corporate Director for Place Management and Regeneration submitted a report (copies of which had been circulated) advising the Area Committee of the preparation of updated Character Appraisal and Management Plan documents for the existing ‘Market/Underbanks’ and ‘Hillgate’ conservation areas.

The following comments were made/issues raised:-

• The documents were not meant to be prescriptive in terms of design.
• The improvements to the public realm in the area were welcomed.
• The town centre shuttle bus attempted to overcome some of the access challenges arising from the topography of the area and was popular with local residents, yet there was pedestrian and vehicular conflict and a negative impact on the quality of the environment in the Underbanks area.

RESOLVED – That the work on draft character appraisals and management plans be supported, and further reports be submitted to the Area Committee on the updated Character Appraisal and Management Plan documents.
