To consider a report of the Cabinet Member for Reform & Governance.

The report advises the Cabinet of the outcome of the consultation on changing the names of the Werneth and Marple Area Committees to ‘Marple and High Lane Area Committee’ and the ‘Bredbury, Romiley and Woodley Area Committee’ respectively, as requested by the Cabinet at its meeting on 18 July 2017.

A copy of the report will be circulated following its consideration by the Werneth and Marple area committees at their meetings on 6 and 8 November 2017.

The Cabinet Member for Reform & Governance submitted a report (copies of which had been circulated) inviting the Cabinet to consider the outcome of a consultation with the public on the possible change of name of the Werneth and Marple area committees. The feedback suggested a majority in favour of retaining the names as they currently were and the area committees themselves had recommended no further action be taken.

RESOLVED – That no further action be taken in respect of the proposal to change area committee names.

To consider a report of the Democratic Services Manager.

The report advises members on the outcome of the consultation on changing the names of the Werneth and Marple Area Committees to ‘Marple and High Lane Area Committee’ and the ‘Bredbury, Romiley and Woodley Area Committee’ respectively.

The Area Committee is invited to comment on the report and those comments will be reported to the Cabinet.

A representative of the Democratic Services Manager submitted a report (copies of which had been circulated) advising the Area Committee of the outcome of the consultation on changing the name of the name of the Area Committee to the ‘Marple and High Lane’ Area Committee.

Councillors discussed the response received following the consultation process.

RESOLVED – That, the Cabinet be informed that it is the view of the Area Committee that the name of the Area Committee should remain unchanged.

The Area Committee is recommended to consider and note the results of the consultation and consider whether to make any recommendation to the Council Meeting in relation to changing the name of the Area Committee.

A representative of the Democratic Services Manager submitted a report (copies of which had been circulated) detailing the outcome of a consultation with regard to a proposal to change the names of the Werneth and Marple Area Committees to ‘Marple and High Lane Area Committee’ and the ‘Bredbury, Romiley and Woodley Area Committee’ respectively.

Members noted that the consultation with regard to the Werneth area indicated that 43% of respondents were broadly opposed to the change of name, while 37% of respondents were broadly in support.

RESOLVED - That the Cabinet be recommended to take no action to effect change to the current name of the Area Committee.
