To consider a report of the Democratic Services Manager.
The report provides an update on progress since the last meeting on decisions taken by the Area Committee and details the current position on area flexibility funding. The report also includes the current position on the highway and traffic management delegated budget.
The Area Committee is recommended to note the report.

A representative of the Democratic Services Manager submitted a report (copies of which had been submitted) updating the Area Committee on progress with implementing decisions taken by the Area Committee since the last meeting and the current position of the Area Flexibility budget.
In relation to the costings for the proposed Alan Newton Way (Minute 9 of 9 February 2016 refers) a representative of the Democratic Services Manager reported it was proposed to install two information boards at either end of the route (cost approximately £1600 each) and for directional signage along the route (cost approximately £100 each).
RESOLVED – (1) That the report be noted.
(2) That £1500 be allocated from the Area Committee Delegated Budget (£500 from each ward) toward the cost of signage and information boards for the proposed Alan Newton Way.

To consider a report of the Corporate Director for Place Management & Regeneration.
The report details a proposal for the naming of a linked series of bridle/ cycleways extending from Hilltop Drive in Marple, along the Goyt Valley, through to Dark Lane in Lower Bredbury as the Alan Newton Way.
The Area Committee is recommended to
(1) Note the report.
(2) Give approval to the naming of the new route as the Alan Newton Way.
(3) Support the proposal by giving consideration to the use of some of its Local Initiative Funding towards the total anticipated costs of £10,000.

The Democratic Services Manager submitted a report of the Corporate Director for Place Management & Regeneration submitted a report (copies of which had been circulated) which detailed a proposal for the naming of a linked series of bridle/cycleways extending from Hilltop Drive in Marple, along the Goyt Valley, through to Dark Lane in Lower Bredbury as the Alan Newton Way.
RESOLVED – (1) That the report be noted.
(2) That approval be given to the naming of the new route as the Alan Newton Way
(3) That the Corporate Director for Place Management and Regeneration be requested to submit a further report detailing a breakdown of the projected costs of the proposed provision of signage and information boards.

A representative of the Democratic Services Manager submitted a report of the Chief Executive (copies of which had been circulated) inviting the Area Committee to consider a proposal to name a linked series of bridle/cycleways from Hilltop Drive in Marple to Lower Bredbury as the ‘Alan Newton Way’ in recognition of the Stockport cycling Olympian.
RESOLVED – (1) That the proposal for the creation of the Alan Newton Way be supported.
(2) That financial support towards the costs of providing signage and information boards for the Alan Newton Way be provided from the Delegated Budget of the four Wards in the Central Stockport area as follows:-
- Brinnington and Central Ward - £200
- Davenport and Cale Green Ward - £200
- Edgeley and Cheadle Heat Ward - £200
- Manor Ward - £200

Councillors welcomed and supported the proposed scheme, but expressed concern about the projected cost of the works.
RESOLVED – That the proposal for the creation of the Alan Newton Way be supported, but that the Chief Executive be requested to provide further details of the projected costs and works needed to the next meeting.

A representative of the Chief Executive submitted a report (copies of which had been circulated) detailing a proposal for the naming of a linked series of bridle/ cycleways extending from Hilltop Drive in Marple, along the Goyt Valley, through to Dark Lane in Lower Bredbury as the Alan Newton Way.
The Chair reported that a public question had been submitted in relation to this in relation to whether the proposal represented value for money given that the right of way was a bridleway and it was proposed to name it after a cyclist.
In response a representative of the Chief Executive stated that the right of way was on the “Connect2” cycle route and that the improvements had been funded through cycle schemes.
RESOLVED – (1)
That the report be noted.
(2) That approval be given to the naming
of the new route as Alan Newton Way.
(3) That the Chief Executive be requested to submit a further report detailing a breakdown of the projected costs of the proposed provision of signage and information boards.
