Minutes:

A representative of the Democratic Services Manager submitted a report of the Deputy Chief Executive (copies of which had been circulated) detailing proposals for the revision of some of the polling arrangements within the Bramhall North, Bramhall South and Woodford; and Cheadle Hulme South wards for the May 2016 local elections.

The following comments were made/ issues raised:-

·         It was noted that there were no other suitable alternatives to the continued use of Nevill Road Primary School as the polling place for polling districts IA and IG in the Bramhall North ward.  It was requested that the Deputy Chief Executive write to the school to explain this position.

·         Members expressed their opposition to the proposed change of polling place from Moss Hey Primary School to Fords Lane Evangelical Church for polling district GC in the Bramhall South & Woodford ward on the basis that the current polling place was well known and well used and that the proposed change would result in traffic problems on Fords Lane.

·         It was commented that although not included within the report, discussions had previously taken place in relation to a proposal that the current two polling stations at Hurst Head Infant and Junior Schools would be changed to a combined station in the infant school except when it was a general election.

·         Support was expressed in relation to the proposal to change the polling place for districts BA and BC in the Cheadle Hulme South ward from Bradshaw Hall Primary School to Emmanuel CofE Church Hall and the church itself, respectively.

RESOLVED – That the Deputy Chief Executive be recommended to give consideration to the comments of the Area Committee in submitting proposals for the revision of polling arrangements within the area represented by the committee for approval by the Council Meeting.
