To consider a report of the Corporate Director for Place Management & Regeneration.  

 

The report details the proposed planning brief for Sim Chem House, Cheadle Hulme. The planning brief's objective is to guide the future development of this important site in Cheadle Hulme District Centre in order to ensure it contributes to the local economy and the well-being of the local community. It also aims to provide certainty for interested parties looking to either reuse the Sim Chem building or to redevelop the site.

 

The Area Committee is recommended to comment on and note the report.

A representative of the Corporate Director for Place Management & Regeneration submitted a report (copies of which had been circulated) detailing a proposed planning brief for Sim Chem House, Cheadle Hulme.

 

The planning brief's objective was to guide the future development of the site in Cheadle Hulme District Centre in order to ensure it contributed to the local economy and the well-being of the local community. It also aimed to provide certainty for interested parties looking to either reuse the Sim Chem building or to redevelop the site.

 

The following comments were made/ issues raised:-

 

·         Concern was expressed that the building was not currently in a secure state.

·         It was suggested that the site could be redeveloped to provide new housing as opposed to apartments.

·         A further comment proposed that a mixed use residential and retail redevelopment of the site would be more sustainable.

·         The current approach to compulsorily purchase the property was considered to be the quickest route to securing a long term future for the site.

·         The planning brief was welcomed as the first step in securing the long-term future of the building.

 

RESOLVED – That the report be noted.

The planning brief’s objective was to guide the future development of the site in Cheadle Hulme District Centre in order to ensure it contributed to the local economy and the well-being of the local community. It also aimed to provide certainty for interested parties looking to either re-use the Sim Chem building or to redevelop the site.

 

The following comments were made/ issues raised:-

 

·         The planning brief was welcomed as the first step in securing the long term future of the building, but concern was expressed about identifying the owner of the building as it not been occupied since 2011 and the length of time it would take for a Compulsory Purchase Order to be issued.

·         Support was given for acceptable use C3 for the site – dwelling houses.

 

RESOLVED – That the report be noted.
