Minutes:

A representative of the Director of Place Management submitted a report (copies of which had been circulated) seeking approval for the legal advertising associated with the removal of specific traffic calming measures along Windlehurst Road and for notification to be given to affected frontages. The report was supplementary to the reports presented at the March 2021, August 2021 and June 2022 Marple Area Committees.

The following comments were made/issues raised:-

·       Members outlined a response from officers received prior to the meeting which set out forthcoming actions in regard to this item. It was outlined that the next steps were for legal notification letters to be delivered to the affected houses seeking responses from local residents, as well as notification to local emergency services to request their comments on the proposed removal of traffic calming measures.

·       It was expected that responses to the legal notification could be provided at the next meeting of the Committee.

·       Members noted the high level of interest that this issue had generated with local residents, and queried what the next steps for the proposed removals would be at this Committee. It was commented that the current item was a request for approval for the legal notification of the removal of the traffic calming measures. Following this, Members would be able to decide on any proposals once the results of the consultation were received following the legal notification.

·       Members emphasised the need to consult local residents on this issue and to be guided by local residents’ views due to the contentious nature of the traffic calming measures.

RESOLVED – That the Cabinet Member for Highways, Parks and Leisure Services approves the legal notification for the removal of the traffic calming features as described within Appendix A to be funded from the Highways Infrastructure Programme (HIP) budget.
