The Chief Executive and Director of Education, Work & Skills are recommended to give approval to the pausing of considerations of the discontinuance of St Mary’s RC Primary School until June 2023 at which point, should it be necessary, a further officer decision will be taken regarding the progress of the discontinuance process.

(1) Cease considerations and stop statutory process -  The school are in possession of an academy order for which they cannot comply, the school is judged in adequate, have financial projections which show they are financially unviable, and they sit within a planning are which holds surplus places.

(2) Publish a statutory proposal and continue with the discontinuance process – the LA are duty bound to facilitate conversion and explore options which are viable alternatives to discontinuance. Should the Emmaus trust wish to reconsider their initial decision, they should be given information and time to do so.
