Homelessness Report and Discharge of Homelessness Duties using Private Sector Accommodation (TE9)

Decision Maker: Executive

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: Yes

Is subject to call in?: Yes

Purpose:

To provide an update on the key issues and trends within the borough in relation to homelessness, and outline the service developments that have been or are being made to prevent and alleviate homelessness. This was requested by the ACS & Housing Scrutiny Committee. The report also seeks approval for a pilot scheme that would enable the Council to discharge its homelessness duties by offering private sector accommodation.

Decision:

The Executive considered and approved a proposal for a pilot that would allow the Council to discharge its homelessness duties by offering private sector accommodation, that it was hoped would allow housing offers to be made more swiftly given the shortage of some types of social housing within the Borough.
