Purpose:

The Stockport Council Annual Flood Resilience Plan was produced to explain our strategies and set out proposals to assist. It described the various roles and responsibilities of the Council with regard to flooding and flood resilience including its roles as the Lead Local Flood Authority (LLFA), Highway Authority and landowner both of greenspace and working with Stockport Homes its significant housing assets. The work in this area supports the council’s overall approach to climate change via Stockport CAN strategy. This report is the second annual report providing an update on activities since April 2021.
The report also provides a response to the Council Motion in July 2022 on highway blocked drains, grids and gullies.

Decision:

The Cabinet has considered a reporting setting out proposals for the Stockport Council Annual Flood Resilience Plan and describing the various roles and responsibilities of the Council with regard to flooding and flood resilience including its roles as the Lead Local Flood Authority (LLFA), Highway Authority and landowner both of greenspace and, working with Stockport Homes, its significant housing assets. 

 

The Cabinet has then noted and endorsed the progress and the proposed future works in the report.

Equality and/or Environmental Impact Assessment: The environmental impact of flooding improvements is addressed in the planning of projects, but projects should also aim to improve water quality, and biodiversity as well as reducing the negative impact of flooding on the population. The Local Flood Risk Management Strategy has been subject to equalities considerations and the specific schemes will consider equalities impacts as they are brought forward. The aim is to reduce the negative impact of flooding on all residents and visitors and that this be done to reflect their specific needs
