The Council also has a legal duty to draw up an Enforcement Policy
that sets out our approach to enforcement. The current policy now
needs to be reviewed in light of changes to legislation and
regulations, especially in light of the new Anti-Social Behaviour
Powers. It is a legal requirement that all departments within the
Council carry out Enforcement in line with the Council’s
policy. A draft review has been drawn up to put before the
Executive for formal adoption.
A Regulator’s Code has been developed by the
Government’s Better Regulation Office. It is a framework for how regulators should engage
with those they regulate and the Council has to publish how we
comply with the code. This applies to anyone in the Council who
carries out regulatory activities. A draft document has been drawn
up to show how we meet the code and needs to be formally adopted by
the Council and published on our website.
The Executive considered and approved a revised Enforcement Policy and the Statement of the Council’s Compliance with the Regulator’s Code.
