The Executive Councillor (Communities and Sustainability) has given approval to the following schedule of fees for licences granted under the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013:-
Collector Licence
Grant £282.00
Renewal £269.00
Variation £24.00
Site Licence
Grant £738.00 and £567 for every additional site licensed by the same body
Renewal £632.00 and £488 for every additional site licensed by the same body
Variation £88.60
NOTE: Both Collectors and Site licences are valid for a three year period from the date of issue
The Act provides that an application for a licence must be accompanied by a fee. The fee will be set locally by each local authority on a cost recovery basis, but local authorities will have a duty to have regard to guidance issued by the Secretary State which has outlined the issues that should be considered by them when setting the fee and what activities the fee can cover. The fee will be an essential component of the new regime as it will provide local authorities with the funding needed to administer the regime and ensure compliance.
The Licensing, Environment and Safety Committee was consulted on the proposed level of fees at its meeting on 20 November 2013 and recommended that the Executive Councillor (Communities and Sustainability) give approval.
