Significant Changes to Maintained schools (CF&E7)

Decision Maker: Cabinet

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: Yes

Is subject to call in?: Yes

Purpose:

The Council has proposed the creation of specialised resource provision at:

• Romiley Primary School

• Marple Hall School

• Priestnall School

A resource provision sits within a mainstream school and provides support for those, who without specialist input, are unlikely to make progress in their learning and will struggle to take part in mainstream school life. In time, it is expected they will be able to attend the majority of their mainstream lessons and take part with others.?

We think it is important that children and families have the choice of attending their local mainstream school. By creating new provision in these communities it means that the majority of children and their needs can be met locally.

A consultation and representation period has been held to hear the views of our residents and other stakeholders, this reports discusses those findings.

Decision:

The Cabinet has considered proposals to formalise the plans to create a resource base at Marple Hall School, Priestnall School and Romiley Primary School; to create fit for purpose and specialised areas within these schools that will be capable of meeting more complex need within a mainstream setting and noted the statutory proposals required by the statutory ‘prescribed alteration‘ process and has agreed to the implementation of statutory proposals and the creation of resource provision at:

·         Marple Hall School

·         Priestnall School, and

·         Romiley Primary School
