The Executive will be requested to consider
the exemptions to parking charges resulting from abolition of the
paper tax disc.
The Executive Meeting considered options to respond to the implications to the Council’s parking charge exemptions arising from the abolition of the paper car tax disc. The Executive approved the ‘No change’ option set out in report that would retain exemptions for those Vehicle Excise Duty Emissions Band A vehicles with a valid tax disc and allow owners of Band A vehicles to apply for an annual discounted parking permit at a charge of £10. The Executive also agreed that this system be reviewed after 6 months of operation.
Alternative options
(i) to remove the current exemptions for Band A vehicles
(ii) amend exemtption to apply only to electric vehicles registered with the Greater Manchester Electric Vehicle Scheme
(iii) offer a £5 discount on contract permit charges
were rejected in favour of the ‘No change’ option as this would be better value for new Band A Vehicle owners.
