New Skatepark in Gatley

We, the undersigned As many of you may know, Stockport is desperately in need of a new facility for extreme sports such as skateboarding, rollerblading and BMXing. The skate ramps at Gatley park are very unsafe for the users due to rust, fires being set, holes in the ramps and the bottom of the ramps coming up. The demand for a new facility is high and as i skateboarder myself, i have to travel to Manchester City Centre or further in order to go to a decent facility. This is very costly and not practical and there are many other youths in Stockport having to do the same. If a new, larger skatepark layout was erected with a smoother floor to avoid painful injuries and damage to personal equipment, this would circum the the needs of the Stockport youth. This would provide a safe, healthy, fun environment for extreme sport enthusiasts and may even reduce youth crime as it would give many young people a chance to do something they love. The ramps at the moment do not comply with these need and something needs

I have personally been injured at the current skatepark due to the floor and unsafe ramps. Furthermore, due to the gritty floor, my skateboard gets ridiculously damaged forcing me to invest in new equipment. Many people have also quit extreme sports due to the horrendous conditions of the ramps. If a new skatepark was created this would bring many youths back to these sports and even allow them to live a healthier lifestyle.
