Keep the essential car user's allowance!

We, the undersigned We the undersigned believe it is grossly unfair for Stockport Council to attempt to remove frontline workers’ essential car users’ allowance.

Stockport Council Social Workers, Family Support Workers, Intensive Support Workers, Leaving Care, Youth Offending Service and other frontline staff do a fantastic job for the vulnerable families and young people of Stockport. We the undersigned believe it is grossly unfair for Stockport Council to attempt to remove these frontline workers’ essential car users’ allowance. Many of these workers need their cars to provide an effective service for their service users (hence the “essential car user” designation in their contracts).

Most of these workers undertake thousands of miles per year, with considerable wear and tear on their vehicles. They deserve to receive a fair compensation, in order to pay for servicing, business insurance and upkeep of their cars. The proposed increase in mileage allowance will not compensate people adequately.
