Traffic calming on Queensway, Heald Green
Queensway in Heald Green is used as a cut through/rat run between Wilmslow Road and Finney Lane.
It has been noticed that cars often ignore the speed bumps on Queensway and travel along it at quite an alarming speed. Lorries also like to use this shortcut between Londis (Haddon Road) and Heald Green Village. In particular a Warburtons van speeds down the road just before 7am on weekdays, flying over the bumps with it's bread trays clattering around in the back.
Traffic traveling down this road at high speed is dangerous, especially considering the close proximity of Etchells Primary School and the area housing mostly young families and elderly people.
I propose that a width restriction point between the junctions of Queensway and Hambleton Road, and Queensway and Thornton Road would prevent lorries being able to use this cut through. Placing a width restriction at alternative points would not work. This may also mean that a width restriction point is needed on East Ave between Hambleton Road and Thornton Road too in order to force lorries to use Wilmslow Road and Finney lane when travelling between Londis and Heald Green Village.
In order to prevent cars travelling at excessive speeds down
this road, it may be necessary to introduce road chokers (to narrow
the road to a single lane and thus force traffic to stop and give
way) at regular intervals.
