28/02/2020 - Extension of a Public Space Protection Order to deal with car cruises ref: 4349    For Determination

Decision Maker: Cabinet Member for Climate Change & Environment

Decision published: 02/03/2020

Effective from: 07/03/2020

Decision:

The Cabinet Member for Sustainable Stockport has given approval to the extension of the existing Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) to prevent car cruises for a further three year period.

Gatherings of vehicles had previously taken place on a regular basis in Stockport which had led to increasing numbers of complains about dangerous driving, anti-social behaviour, litter and noise nuisance.

Since the introduction of the PSPO, there has been a significant reduction in car cruising in Stockport.  Seven fixed-penalty notices have been issued since May 2017, and the PSPO has been effective in preventing a number of attempts to restart car cruises.

The results of the consultation strongly supported the extension of the PSPO for a further three year period.
