Evidence Gathering - Improving Children's Mental Health At the first meeting the panel held a wide ranging discussion and determined that the review will focus support provided to schools and provision in the school environment. Consequently, the following have been invited to take part in a discussion:-
· Janette Braithwaite, Inclusion Services · Jenny Curzon, Restorative Approaches Headteacher Support · Tanya Cross, Schools Health & Well Being Advisor · Cathy Lyall, Strategic Lead SEN · Janice Cahill, Pendlebury Centre · A representative of Werneth School
Further to the discussion held at the first meeting, Councillors identified the following as issues of areas of work that they wished to explore further:-
I. The desire to work towards a first point of contact as a referral pathway for schools and GP’s II. Work being undertaken nationally by NICE and how that can be used to benefit Stockport Council III. Encouragement to Schools to have a named lead/development of emotional wellbeing leads IV. How the various (embedded) mental health support services in schools interact V. Raising awareness in schools of the HYM services VI. How the 1.5WTE additional mental health practitioners will be deployed VII. Training for school staff / improve confidence of school staff in working with emotional distress VIII. The impact of the Living Life to the Full Programme/ Development of a toolkit to support school’s commissioning of mental health support IX. the link between good mental health and educational attainment/ impact of the new OFSTED regimes”
Minutes: The Chair explained that at the meeting of the Panel on 3 October, there had been two presentations and as a result the Panel had identified a number of key areas that they wished to explore further including:-

The chair welcomed the following participants to the meeting and asked them to share their experiences and opinions with the Panel:-

The Panel members proceeded to ask those in attendance and a discussion was held in respect to the support provided and opportunities to access support particularly in the school environment.
RESOLVED – That those participants be thanked for their attendance and participation and that the issues raised be incorporated into the final report.
