The report provides an update on progress since the last meeting on decisions taken by the Area Committee and details the current position on ward flexibility funding. The report also includes the current position on the Area Committee’s delegated budget.

A representative of the Strategic Head of Service & Monitoring Officer (Legal & Democratic Governance) submitted a report (copies of which had been circulated) updating the Area Committee on progress since the last meeting on decisions taken by the Area Committee and details the current position on Ward Flexibility Funding. The report also includes the current position on the Area Committee’s Delegated Budget.

 

The following comments were made/issues raised:-

 

·         Reference was made to the existing parking restrictions at Church Road/Elm Road, Gatley. On occasions, cars had been double parked at the junction making access and egress difficult. Members requested that the Civil Enforcement Officers monitor the junction. A similar request was made for the Civil Enforcement Officers to monitor the traffic restrictions on Ladybridge Road, Cheadle Hulme.

·         An update was requested on the installation of parking restrictions on Cranleigh Drive, Cheadle.

·         An update was requested on the Area Committee’s request for a residents’ parking scheme to be introduced on Vaudrey Drive, Cheadle Hulme.

The Chair referred to a parade by uniformed cadets on 24 October 2021 to mark Trafalgar Day, followed by a service at St. George’s Church. He also referred to a number of Remembrance Day Services which would be held in the Cheadle area on 14 November 2021.

Neighbourhood Policing

Councillors and members of the public are invited to raise ‘Neighbourhood Policing’ issues with the local Neighbourhood Policing Team.

Inspector Rob Hawksley attended the meeting to report on neighbourhood policing issues in the Cheadle area. He also reported on recent crime committed in the Cheadle area, and advised the meeting that this would be the last meeting he would be attending prior to his retirement from Greater Manchester Police.

 

Members were advised of the following:-

 

·         The number of robberies and anti-social behaviour perpetrated by young people on mopeds

·         Shoplifting incidents in Cheadle

·         Operation Treacle over halloween and bonfire night

·         Crime prevention work in the area.

 

The following comments were made/issues raised:

 

·         It was requested that Park Road and the area around Diamond Jubilee Park and Abbey Road/Parsonage Way, Cheadle be included under Operation Treacle.

·         Further to comments made at previous meetings of the Area Committee, Members asked that a report on Speedwatch be brought to the Area Committee as soon as possible.

 

RESOLVED – That Inspector Hawksley be thanked for his attendance and work in the Cheadle area, and wished a long and happy retirement.

Open Forum: New Cheadle Railway Station & Walking and Cycling Routes Consultation - Towns Fund

In accordance with the Code of Practice no organisation has indicated that they wished to address the Area Committee as part of the Open Forum arrangements.

Jamie Carruthers ( Head of Capital Programme, Stockport Council) attended the meeting and made a presentation on the consultations being undertaken on the new Cheadle Railway Station & Walking and Cycling Routes.

 

The public consultation would run for three weeks until 7 November 2021 and would be hosted on the Council’s website. Two drop-in sessions were planned: between 10.00am-212 noon on 23 October 2021 at Cheadle Library and between 2.30pm-6.30pm on 4 November 2021 at Cheadle Village Hall.

 

RESOLVED – That Jamie Carruthers be thanked for his attendance and presentation.

It was reported that ‘Blossom Frog’, which was located in Bruntwood Park in the Cheadle and Gatley Ward, was to be funded from the Place Directorate Reserve Budget; ‘Forest Frog’, which was located in Abney Park in the Cheadle Hulme North Ward, was to be funded from the Place Directorate Reserve Budget and ‘Mercury’ frog, which had been located near to the shops on Finney Lane in the Heald Green Ward, had been funded by sponsorship from local retailers and businesses.
