Neighbourhood Policing

Councillors and members of the public are invited to raise ‘Neighbourhood Policing’ issues with the local Neighbourhood Policing Team.

A representative of the Neighbourhood Policing Team, Greater Manchester Police attended the meeting and provided an update in respect of neighbourhood policing issues in Marple and the surrounding areas.

 

The following comments were made/issues raised:-

 

·         Overall reported crime was down by 40/50 instances per month.

·         There had been a 25% reduction in reported burglaries when compared to statistics from last year. Similarly, reported instances of anti-social behaviour had reduced by half.

·         The response to anti-social behaviour which had taken place in Marple Memorial Park on 22 December 2017.

·         Pressures on car parking resulting from the reopening of the Police station as a base for officers.

·         The use of ANPR cameras.

·         Problems associated with anti-social behaviour on the skatepark in Marple Memorial Park and the possibility of relocating the CCTV camera.

 

RESOLVED – That the report be noted and the representative of Greater Manchester Police be thanked for his attendance and presentation.

Public Question Time

Members of the public are invited to put questions to the Chair of the Area Committee on any matters within the powers and duties of the Area Committee, subject to the exclusions set out in the Code of Practice (Questions must be submitted prior to the commencement of the meeting on the cards provided. The following questions were submitted:-

 

a)    The availability of none limited waiting parking for residents of Stockport Road.

 

RESOLVED – That the Corporate Director for Place Management and Regeneration be requested to investigate this issue and report to a future meeting.

 

b)    Car Parking charges in the Midland car park.

 

Councillor Allan and the Chair answered the question at the meeting.

 

RESOLVED – That the response be noted.

4.(v)

Public Realm

The local Public Realm Inspector will attend the meeting to provide an update on matters raised at the last committee meetings. Councillors and Members of the public are invited to raise issues affecting local environmental quality.

Karen Barnes (Public Realm Service) provided an update on public realm and environmental related matters in the area represented by Marple Area Committee.

 

The following comments were made/issues raised:-

·         The Great British Spring Clean Event that would take place on the weekend of the 2nd-4th March 2018.

·         A large number of ad-hoc blocked gully reports had been received due to the inclement wet weather this month

·         The cutting back of hedges on Glossop Road.

·         The Keep Britain Tidy campaign signs were positioned on Middlewood Way. The area would be monitored over forthcoming weeks and following the removal of the signs.

·         Water running across the carriageway on Windlehurst Road during heavy rainfall which was running off adjoining fields.

·         A derelict site near to Cross Lane had been broken into and one of the buildings set alight. The owners had been contacted and asked to clear the land and secure the area. Officers were still awaiting a response and so were seeking legal advice in respect to securing the building.

 

RESOLVED – That Karen Barnes be thanked for her attendance and presentation.

To consider an applications for Area Flexibility Funding from the Open Gardens in Marple group

A representative of the Democratic Services Manager submitted an Area Flexibility Funding application (copies of which had been circulated) on behalf of Open Gardens in Marple for funding towards the purchase of banners and permanent publicity materials.

 

RESOLVED – That a grant for £700.00 be awarded to Open Gardens in Marple (to be divided equally between the two wards) for funding towards the purchase of banners and permanent publicity materials.

To consider an application from the organisers of the Marple Festival of Sport.

A representative of the Democratic Services Manager submitted an Area Flexibility Funding application (copies of which had been circulated) on behalf of Marple Festival of Sport requesting funding towards the provision of nine sports taster sessions in Marple and the surrounding villages.

 

RESOLVED – That a grant of £1000.00 be awarded to Marple Festival of Sport( to be divided equally between the two wards) for funding towards the provision of nine sports taster sessions in Marple and the surrounding villages.

To consider a report of the Corporate Director for Place Management and Regeneration.

 

The report requests the Area Committee to consider the following a proposed Local Initiative Scheme on Highfield Road to fill various potholes. Highfield Road is an un-adopted highway.

A representative of the Democratic Services Manager submitted a report of the Corporate Director for Place Management and Regeneration (copies of which had been circulated) requesting the Area Committee to consider a proposal for the laying of cold planings on Highfield Road to fill a number of potholes.

 

RESOLVED – That the laying of cold planings on Highfield Road to fill a number of potholes be approved at an approximate cost of £955.00 to be funded from the ward delegated budget (Marple South ward allocation)

RESOLVED – That the installation of a double ‘Memorial Park Drive’ nameplate at the entrance to Memorial Park Drive from Stockport Road and a single ‘Memorial Park Drive’ nameplate at the top of the drive be approved at an approximate cost of £339.00 to be funded from the Area Committee delegated budget (Marple North ward allocation)

The report provides an update on progress since the last meeting on decisions taken by the Area Committee and details the current position on area flexibility funding. The report also includes the current position on the highway and traffic management delegated budget.
