Chair's Announcements

To receive any announcements from the Chair about local community events or issues.

The Chair reported that a memorial service had been held on 4 June 2017 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Stockport Air Disaster when a British Midland Airways passenger aircraft crashed at Hopes Carr, Stockport in which 72 people lost their lives.

 

The Chair then announced that an event would be held at St Barnabas Church, Bredbury on 18 June 2017 as part of ‘The Great Get Together’ which aimed to celebrate Jo Cox’s belief that ‘we are far more united and have far more in common than that which divides us’.

Public Question Time

Members of the public are invited to put questions to the Chair of the Area Committee on any matters within the powers and duties of the Area Committee, subject to the exclusions set out in the Code of Practice (Questions must be submitted prior to the commencement of the meeting on the cards provided. These are available the meeting.  You can also submit via the Council’s website at www.stockport.gov.uk/publicquestions.

Members of the public were invited to put questions to the Chair of the Area Committee on any matters within the powers and duties of the Area Committee, subject to the exclusions set out in the Code of Practice.

 

Three public questions were submitted as follows:-

 

·         Relating to the possibility of providing a mirror at the junction of Healdwood Road and Werneth Road to provide better visibility for traffic negotiating the junction.

 

RESOLVED – That the Democratic Services Manager be requested to respond to the questioner in writing.

 

·         Relating to drainage at Greave School, Woodley.

 

RESOLVED – That the Democratic Services Manager be requested to respond to the questioner in writing.

 

·         Relating to resurfacing of Peterhouse Gardens which residents had been informed were due to take place earlier this year.

 

Councillor Christine Corris responded that she would pursue the matter further with officers in Traffic Services to identify the cause of the delay in these works.

The local Public Realm Inspector will attend the meeting to provide an update on matters raised at the last committee meetings. Councillors and Members of the public are invited to raise issues affecting local environmental quality.

The Chair reported that the Public Realm Officer was unable to attend this meeting of the Area Committee, however it was stated that a summary of activities with the Public Realm service area had been circulated to members of the area committee separately.

Petitions

To receive petitions from members of the public and community groups.

A representative of the Democratic Services Manager reported on the receipt of a petition signed by approximately 1,350 signatories requesting the Council to address issues of anti-social behaviour in the Bredbury area.

 

RESOLVED – That the petition be referred to the Corporate Director for Place Management & Regeneration.

In accordance with the Code of Practice no organisation has indicated that they wished to address the Area Committee as part of the Open Forum arrangements.

To consider an application for area flexibility funding received on behalf of Woodley Cricket Club.

John Billinge attended the meeting and submitted an application on behalf of Woodley Cricket Club for ward flexibility funding towards the cost of the refurbishment of the kitchen at the Club

 

RESOLVED - That approval be given to the award of a grant of £1,000 to Woodley Cricket Club from the Ward Flexibility Budget as a contribution to the cost of the refurbishment of the kitchen at the Club.

To consider an application for area flexibility funding received on behalf of the Vale School of Dance.

Kate Charlton and members of the Vale School of Dance attended the meeting and submitted an application on behalf of School for ward flexibility funding towards the cost of new costumes and tracksuits

 

RESOLVED - That approval be given to the award of a grant of £1,000 from the Ward Flexibility Budget to the Vale School of Dance as a contribution to the cost of new costumes and tracksuits.

The Area Committee is invited to nominate Ward Spokespersons with whom the Corporate Director for Place Management & Regeneration can consult on highway maintenance and traffic management matters.

 

A copy of the Ward Spokesperson Protocol approved by the Area Committee at its meeting on 23 May 2011 is attached for information.

 

The Area Committee is recommended to nominate Ward Spokespersons in accordance with the Protocol.

The report provides an update on progress since the last meeting on decisions taken by the Area Committee and details the current position on area flexibility funding. The report also includes the current position on the highway and traffic management delegated budget.

A representative of the Democratic Services Manager submitted a report (copies of which had been circulated) updating the Area Committee on progress on decisions taken by the Area Committee since the last meeting and the current position on the Area Flexibility and the Delegated budget.

 

RESOLVED – (1) That the report be noted.

 

(2) That the Corporate Director for Place Management & Regeneration be requested to clarify the position with regard to the implementation of the decision of the Area Committee  on 12 December 2016 to relocate the gates at the entrance to the Centre.
