To consider a report of the Interim Director for Education.

 

The report provides information on the support offered to current and former members of the armed forces, reservists and their families as part of our commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant.

 

The Scrutiny Committee are invited to comment on the report.

The Interim Director for Education submitted a report (copies of which had been circulated) providing an update in respect to the support offered to current and former members of the armed forces, reservists and their families as part of the Council’s commitment to the Armed Forces.

 

The following comments were made/issues raised:-

 

·         Councillors asked how the number of children entering schools was monitored and asked for a breakdown on where the 95 children currently living in the borough went to school.

·         The involvement of Stockport Family and how any ex-servicemen dealing with mental health problems were assisted.

·         The Committee welcomed the fact that the Council had signed up to the covenant and asked what work was being undertaken with school partners about awareness raising.

·         How the spending of pupil premium monies was monitored in respect to those children of ex-servicemen.

 

RESOLVED – That the report be noted.
