Decision Maker: Cabinet Member for Communities & Housing

Decision status: For Determination

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: Yes

Decision:

Cease all new lettings at Edinburgh Close and work is progressed to rehouse the existing residents in accordance with the Sheltered Housing Decommission Allocation Policy, but on the basis all residents will have the option to return to the proposed new scheme on completion.

Progress the proposals and subject to planning approvals, develop an Extra Care scheme containing 53 self-contained apartments for a mixture of affordable/social rent and shared ownership.

Edinburgh Close in Cheadle is a Council owned sheltered housing scheme, consisting of 33 self-contained one-bedroom flats for rent, constructed in 1967.  The scheme does not meet the future needs or expectations of older people and these requirements cannot be easily or fully addressed within the constraints of the current building.  In addition, the scheme requires significant ongoing repairs and investment.  Work will be progressed to take forward the scheme closure and demolition to facilitate the development of a new Extra Care scheme to provide circa 53 high quality apartments built to meet the future needs and aspirations of older people.
